  • From vision to Vimeo: what’s behind a shareable video anyway?

“We want a viral video!” – Everyone, all the time. Facepalm. It’s so tough when a client approaches us for this, because who can ever really know if a video is going to go ‘viral’? Of course, there are some ideas that are definitely stickier than others. But even if you find that good idea, there’s […]

  • A Tale of 5 TopSheets: Using story to sell

Now that we’re all being regularly inundated with salesy crap in our inboxes on the daily, it’s become increasingly difficult to create compelling marketing collateral. Aside from the sheer volume of content we’re delivered, the usual toolkit of trick psychology is losing its effectiveness as people wise up to the ruse. For example, let’s look […]

facebooke-likes

You can’t pay your staff with Facebook Likes.

We believe that marketing has to be accountable and tied back to revenue. Your campaigns have to pay the rent, pay employees, and drive company growth. We won’t send you meaningless metrics to justify our bill.

analytics

Data kills egos.

Pretty landing pages don’t always win. Creative taglines often lose to simple customer testimonials. You’ll always be surprised at what customer research uncovers. Data helps us fail faster. With testing and analysis, we use data to find the story that builds your business.

framing

Mirrors, frames,
and emotion.

Frames help buyers choose what to ignore and influence what they believe. If you want to sell, you need to mirror back the beliefs and emotions that a buyer uses to interpret their world. We help you discover and use emotional frames to your advantage.

audience

Audience + Creative

First, we skip the power animals

Most agencies begin with you. They take you on an elaborate brand discovery odyssey where you talk about your favorite colors, power animals, and your difficult relationship with your stepmother.

Branding is important, but it can focus too much on your story instead of discovering what your audience wants. We use audience intelligence tools, deep analytics, user testing, surveys, and quantitative data to understand what drives your buyer.

Content & storyworlds

We’ve dreamt up iPhone apps to launch a documentary film and then built the world’s largest digital wall of hearts. We’ve sold photo apps on Mars (using green screens). And created animated banner ads with Pac-Man to sell enterprise IT software.

Our goal is to create content that doesn’t feel like marketing. Because the
biggest barrier to you selling isn’t reaching an audience, it’s earning their attention, trust, and click.

Set goals, move fast

Too many agencies try to sound smart instead of actually giving you a solid tactical plan. Too much strategy means you’ll never get started. Too much tactical thinking means you’ll waste a lot of time getting to places you never planned to go. We try to find a balance.

measure-icon

Code + Measurement

From prototypes to products

For SaaS companies, we’ve built interfaces and simplified features. For tech brands, we’ve built content sites and apps.

We’ll also help you find product-market fit. We’ve done validation tests on the streets outside of our office, conducted user testing, and gathered audience feedback. If a concept doesn’t test well in the real world we head back inside. It’s like Madmen with longer hours and cheaper alcohol.

Digital takeover

This is where a multi-channel execution plan comes in. Typically this is a phased approach. First, we execute direct response channels (paid search and display) to generate immediate traffic and results. When sales start rolling in we launch inbound campaigns across SEO, social media and content marketing channels.

We will also fine-tune your conversion path, run A/B tests, and work to improve your user experience.

analytics-tracking

Analytics + Revenue Tracking

Every client receives a web-based dashboard where you can track our progress and results. You’ll see key metrics such as CTR, conversion rate, and the acquisition cost for each channel.

We use our data to improve future campaigns and spark new ideas for content
and campaigns.

We don’t hire clock pushers. We only work with people that truly love what they do. We look for passion projects, a love of specialization, and a commitment to their craft.

  • corbin Corbin Ching

    Corbin Ching

    Lead Designer

    Teams: Creative, Design & Dev,

Corbin unwittingly gave up a male modelling career to make pretty landing pages and bright interfaces. He is a budding expert in designing interfaces for Android and iOS. A master beard-grower and casual beekeeper, Corbin loves designing for start-ups and SaaS products. He also believes in clarity and brevity. He resides in a small, perfectly white house with nothing inside of it; not even toilet paper (it’s bad for the environment, and the biodegradable brand is just not soft enough). x

Before unleashing his creative fury on the world of advertising, Michael toured the country with his rock & roll band, “Jeffery Sez.” Now, with slightly shorter hair and an unstoppable talent for producing idea after idea, Michael has become One Net’s secret concepting weapon. If you’ve seen the hit show PORTLANDIA, you’ve already seen his work. His typography was used in the show, as well as downloaded over 3 million times on the inter-webs. He is the co-creator of Hipster Bait, an interactive music discovery project that won 10K and first place in the prestigious Emerging Media Content. He is loud, always on, and habitually creating. x

    Erin Skillen

    Project Manager

    Teams: Creative, Design & Dev,

As a producer and project manager, Erin thrives on the creative process of shaping meaningful and entertaining content, while taking immense joy in keeping everybody 'on task'. She loves the dorky, spread-sheety paperwork side of keeping our ducks in a row and seriously gets a buzz doing budgets and financing structures. She’s aware how strange that is. Prior to joining the One Net team, Erin was the Vice President at May Street Productions. Her roles included Producer, Writer, Director, Host and Business Affairs nerd for several socially-conscious TV documentary specials and series for Discovery, W Network, CBC, APTN and many more. x

    Teams: Design & Dev, Marketing,

By far the best looking member of the team, Pepper is the self-designated Chair of the Welcoming Committee. Pepper’s infectious personality and eager disposition ensure she’s the life of the party. And not unlike a dinner host who’s had a few cocktails before answering the door, this one might move in for a kiss when you thought you were just shaking hands. • deanna Deanna Ladret

    Deanna Ladret

    Content Director

Teams: Copy & PR, Creative, Video,

As One Net’s Content Director, Deanna gets to relive her childhood passion of playing Dress Up every day – only these days she pretends to be other people without wearing their clothes. Although slightly less invigorating, the satisfaction of delighting a client with a polished video script, content strategy or catchy tagline more than makes up for the absence of feather boas and tap shoes. Dee has been fortunate to work on projects for neat companies like Binatone UK, Western Union, Zirx, Intuit, and loads of other smaller brands you maybe haven’t heard of, but were lots of fun – like Generation Squeeze! x
  • greame Graeme Scott

    Graeme Scott

    Web Application Developer

    Teams: Design & Dev,

We scooped Graeme Straight Outta College, quickly promoting him from intern to full-time Developer. An expert in PHP, HTML 5 and Javascript – and proficient in CSS3, SQL and basically everything else – this rising star still finds the time to lay down hip hop beats on Ableton after jamming out code for 8 hours straight. We think it’s funny when people who do Java don’t drink coffee, and Graeme is kind enough to indulge us with a goodnatured chuckle every time we mention it. x
  • david David Parfit

    David Parfit

    Composer & Audio Engineer

    Teams: Video,

You may have seen David on the hit reality TV show, Cover Me Canada with his talented band. Or perhaps heard his music floating behind the voice of Ryan Reynolds in the documentary, “The Whale”. Such is the daily glamorous life of One Net’s favourite audio engineer. David composes and records all of the original music that we use in our video projects. He holds a Master’s Degree in Music Technology from NYU and more accolades than we have room to list. David’s talents continue as an inventor of art installations like a Bubble organ that It lights up, makes sounds and blows bubbles when the keys are pressed. In the early mornings when the rest of One Net is sleeping, David heads to the water to fly-fish. x
